Aizawl, Nov. 5 -- union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Minority Affairs George Kurian, the only Christian member in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet, arrived in Mizoram for a one-day visit to campaign for the upcoming Dampa Assembly by-election.

Kurian, who hails from Kerala, addressed a public meeting at Darlung village on Wednesday evening, organised under the coordination of the Mizoram People's Forum (MPF), the church-backed election watchdog that oversees ethical campaigning in the state.

Speaking at the event, the minister said he was surprised that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was being wrongly portrayed in Mizoram as an anti-Christian party.
