Chennai, July 28 -- For years, the Cauvery river water row has been the bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and the latter's move to construct a new dam at Mekedatu across the river has further heightened political tensions between the two neighbours.
While Tamil Nadu apart from steadfastly pressing its stand for due share of Cauvery waters to meet the irrigation needs of farmers in the delta districts, has been stoutly opposing construction of the Mekedatu dam, vowed to stall it at any cost and has been taking all legal steps on the issue, despite Karnataka's unrelented stand to go ahead with the dam construction.
