New Delhi, Feb. 24 -- The union Cabinet, Tuesday approved a proposal to alter the name of the State of "Kerala" to "Keralam," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced.
Addressing a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting, Vaishnaw said the decision marks an important constitutional step following a unanimous resolution passed by the State's Legislative Assembly last year. "The union Cabinet has approved the proposal for alteration of the name of the State of Kerala as 'Keralam.' The constitutional process under Article 3 will now be followed," he said.
