Kalna, July 12 -- Bengal's lone wooden doll industry centered at a small East Burdwan village here is now poised for a global push, especially in the wake of a dedicated visit by a delegation of an UNESCO-affiliated agency.
The wooden doll manufacturing hub at Natungram in Kalna was recently crowned with the Geographical Indication tag. The delegation arrived at Natungram - the cradle of wooden doll craft yesterday and visited door to door for a first-hand assessment of the art form.
The officials interacted with the craftsmen, observed and grabbed videograph of the doll-making process and reviewed manufacturing techniques.
