New Delhi, Aug. 17 -- India's unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above declined to 5.1 per cent in July 2026 from 5.5 per cent in June, even as labour force participation and the share of the working population increased, according to the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS).
Data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Monday showed that the rural unemployment rate fell to 4.5 per cent in July from 5 per cent a month earlier. In urban areas, however, unemployment remained largely unchanged at 6.7 per cent, compared with 6.6 per cent in June.
