Kolkata, Jan. 25 -- Amid controversy over the appointment of the next Director General of Police (DGP), the West Bengal government has sent a panel of eight senior IPS officers to the union Public Service Commission (UPSC), as the tenure of the present DGP Rajeev Kumar comes to an end this month.
Rajeev Kumar, who is currently serving as the acting DGP, is scheduled to retire on January 31. However, the name of the next DGP is yet to be finalised.
The uncertainty has deepened as the state's proposed list sent to Delhi also includes Rajeev Kumar's name, triggering speculation over whether the government is seeking to continue him in the top post.
