London, Oct. 3 -- British police have charged two Iranian men with "terrorism offences" over an alleged plot to attack the Jewish community in Manchester on the eve of Yom Kippur, authorities said, as security agencies investigate s a disrupted attempt to target the community.

The Metropolitan Police identified the suspects as Salam Ahmadyan, 36, from Liverpool, and Rahman Salehi, 34, from Salford.

They were arrested on September 20 and charged on Friday with "engaging in conduct in preparation for terrorist acts", police said.

Authorities said the men were allegedly in contact with a third person who may be in Iran in connection with the suspected plot.
