Aizawl, May 30 -- Fresh from his rise on the global mixed martial arts stage, UFC flyweight champion Joshua Van today struck an emotional chord in Mizoram, saying he considers the state "like his own home" and its people as his "brethren".

The young UFC star, who belongs to the Chin community of Myanmar, made the remarks during a meeting with Chief Minister Lalduhoma at the latter's office in Aizawl, where he was hosted for high tea amid his ongoing visit to the state.

Joshua Van's arrival at Lengpui Airport earlier in the day drew an enthusiastic reception from fans and sports lovers, many of whom see the fighter as a symbol of pride for the wider Zo ethnic community spread across the region and neighbouring Myanmar.
