Vrindavan, April 11 -- Authorities have arrested two individuals, including the boatman, in connection with the tragic boat accident in Vrindavan that has claimed at least 11 lives, mostly pilgrims from Punjab.
The accused - boatman Pappu Nishad and contractor Narayan Sharma - have been sent to jail following the incident.
According to police officials, the boatman had ferried devotees from Jugal Ghat shortly before the accident occurred. He was taken into custody nearly six hours after the incident on Friday night, after initially fleeing the scene.
Rescue operations entered their second day on Saturday, with more than 250 personnel, including army teams, deployed along a 14-kilometre stretch of the Yamuna River.
