Agartala, Feb. 14 -- The Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) on Saturday shut down 52 stone-crushing units in Churaibari, North Tripura, near the Assam border, for non-compliance with pollution control rules over the past few months.

Officials said there had been longstanding complaints of noise and air pollution against these units.They added that the decision follows a recent visit by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to the area, during which he instructed relevant departments to conduct a thorough investigation into the operations of the units, which residents claimed were violating environmental regulations.
