Washington, July 22 -- US President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to destroy Iranian bridges and power plants, including sites in Tehran, if Iran carries out further attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, signalling a possible escalation in its ongoing war in West Asia.

The warning came as Trump weighs whether to pursue a ceasefire with Tehran or expand the US military campaign against Iran.

According to US officials, a key American condition for any ceasefire is that Iran halt attacks on commercial vessels and allow shipping to resume freely through the Strait of Hormuz.
