Washington, Oct. 1 -- US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Washington may resume military action against Iran after the US midterm elections if Tehran and Washington fail to reach an agreement that he considers "satisfactory," while saying he did not believe lasting peace with Iran is ever possible.

In an interview with Time Magazine published on Thursday, Trump said he has rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz because its terms did not meet his expectations.

"I wouldn't have approved a year ago ... and I wouldn't today," Trump said when asked why he had rejected the proposal.
