Washington, July 28 -- US President Donald Trump said he decided to pause military strikes against Iran to give diplomacy another chance but cautioned that all options remain on the table and warned that if talks fail, then Washington would quickly return to expanded military action.
Speaking to Axios on Monday, Trump said ongoing talks were focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restarting negotiations on a broader agreement over Iran's nuclear programme.
The negotiations are being led primarily by Iran and Oman, with Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt and Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, also involved in diplomatic efforts.
