Washington, Aug. 25 -- US President Donald Trump's much-touted "economic D-Day" against Iran arrived Monday with far less immediate impact than the promise with which it came, amounting instead to the opening phase of a prolonged sanctions campaign.
Dubbed "Operation Economic Outcast," the strategy is designed to gradually tighten economic pressure on Iran by threatening countries and companies that continue to provide Tehran with financial and commercial lifelines.
Rather than delivering a single dramatic blow, the campaign ultimately seeks to push Iran's foreign partners out of the US financial system altogether, reports Axios.
