Washington, Sept. 24 -- US President Donald Trump rolled out an elaborate welcome for Chinese President Xi Jinping, personally greeting him at a military airbase as a three-day summit opened against the backdrop of tensions over trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and the war in Iran.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Wednesday evening, in an unusually high-profile reception that featured a 100-foot (30-metre) red carpet, a military flyover, a 21-gun salute and the US Air Force band.
