Washington, Sept. 10 -- US President Donald Trump has promised to issue $5,000 cheques to every adult US citizen if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, reviving an idea he has floated before but never implemented.
Speaking at a Republican midterm convention on Wednesday night, Trump said "I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000" if Republicans keep control of the House and Senate.
The proposal would cost roughly $1.2 trillion to fulfil, based on Census Bureau estimates of about 245 million adult US citizens, reports Axios.
