Washington, Nov. 12 -- Sergio Gor, the newly appointed US Ambassador to India, took charge on Wednesday, with President Donald Trump announcing that he is entrusting Gor with the critical task of strengthening the United States' strategic, economic, and security partnership with India.

Trump praised Gor's appointment, emphasising India's importance as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific, home to over 1.5 billion people, and highlighting the "fantastic relationship" between the US and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

At Gor's swearing-in ceremony, Trump suggested that Washington may soon lower tariffs on Indian goods, signaling that both sides are moving closer to a potential trade deal.
