Washington, Aug. 28 -- The Trump administration has issued a memo to US universities, warning that they could lose their ability to enrol international students if they fail to comply with federal rules governing internship work authorisations leading some institutions to pause applications for certain programmes.
In an August 24 memo, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), which is part of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said it had detected a rise in Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorisations that appeared to violate existing regulations.
Under the rules cited in the memo, CPT is permitted only when practical training is an integral part of an established academic curriculum.
