Imphal/Ukhrul, May 29 -- A truck driver from West Bengal was killed and a police personnel injured after suspected armed miscreants allegedly opened fire on goods vehicles along National Highway-202 between Leingangching and TS Kasom under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district today, according to police.
According to police, trucks carrying essential commodities were travelling from Imphal towards Ukhrul under security escort amid ongoing tensions and blockade attempts along the Imphal-Ukhrul highway. Kuki organisations had enforced a blockade on the highway, leading to shortages of essential supplies in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
