Tokyo, June 2 -- Tropical Storm Jangmi injured at least 16 people, knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and prompted evacuation advisories for nearly 400,000 residents across southwestern Japan on Tuesday as it moved toward the country's mainland.
Jangmi, which was earlier classified as a typhoon, battered the subtropical island of Okinawa before tracking north toward Kyushu, Japan's southernmost main island.
The severe weather also disrupted transportation, grounding hundreds of flights and affecting travel across southwestern Japan.
