Agartala, May 23 -- The Tripura government has announced the procurement of 200 guns for forest personnel to enhance efforts against timber smuggling, as per Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma.
Debbarma further disclosed that the state government is in the process of recruiting 167 forest guards who will undergo comprehensive training in forestry and firearm handling. To combat timber smuggling, the department has been implementing strict measures and working with the Tripura State Rifles to strengthen enforcement.
The department is also prioritising the augmentation of forest cover through extensive plantation drives and the restoration of degraded land, despite Tripura already boasting over 60% green coverage.
