Agartala, Sept. 3 -- Tripura has recorded a sharp and consistent decline in its unemployment rate over the past six years, remaining below the national average, according to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.

In 2018-19, Tripura's unemployment rate stood at 10% against the national average of 5.8%. The figure dropped sharply to 3.2% in 2019-20 and remained unchanged in 2020-21. It further reduced to 3% in 2021-22, fell to 1.4% in 2022-23, and stood at 1.7% in 2023-24, compared to the national average of 3.2% during the same period.

Officials attributed the improvement to the state government's recruitment initiatives and alternative employment generation programs.
