Agartala, May 22 -- Tripura has achieved its lowest-ever Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) according to the latest Sample Registration System (SRS) Bulletin released by the Registrar General of India in May 2026, officials said here on Friday.

Tripura's IMR has dropped to 12 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024, which is significantly better than the national average of 24.

In comparison to other north-eastern states, Tripura's IMR surpasses Assam's 29, Meghalaya's 31, and Arunachal Pradesh's 17, positioning Tripura ahead in child survival indicators.
