Agartala, Sept. 18 -- The Tripura government has granted land ownership to 4,500 families of tea garden workers, allowing them to reside permanently without the threat of displacement, said Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy today.

He said over 6,500 workers are employed in 56 operational tea gardens across the state.

"We have increased the daily wages for adult male and female workers from Rs 176 to Rs 204, while non-adult workers now earn Rs 102, up from Rs 88, which made a significant improvement in their livelihood," he stated.

The minister noted that the current monthly allowance stands at Rs 2,000 for differently abled persons, which is considerably higher than what was provided during the Left Front regime.
