Agartala, July 19 -- The Tripura High Court has revised the sentences of nine Bangladeshi nationals who were convicted for illegally entering India.
The court has instructed the state government to expedite their deportation to Bangladesh in accordance with established procedures.
Justice T Amarnath Goud, part of a single bench, issued this order while resolving three criminal appeals against judgments from the Sessions Courts in the districts of Unakoti and Dhalai.
The appellants, comprising eight men and women from various areas of Bangladesh, had contested their convictions under the Foreigners Act, 1946, the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, and its Amendment Act, 2000.
