Agartala, Oct. 13 -- The High Court of Tripura today dismissed a plea by former Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar seeking to quash an FIR filed against him for an alleged provocative speech at a political event in Agartala.

The court also urged him to avoid making inflammatory statements and contribute to maintaining peace. A Division Bench of Justices T Amarnath Goud and Biswajit Palit issued the order after examining Sarkar's petition.

The First Information Report, registered on August 16 at West Agartala Police Station, was based on a complaint alleging that Sarkar's speech on August 10 called for aggressive actions if certain demands against the state and central governments were not met, potentially inciting violence.
