Kolkata, March 18 -- Transgender youth groups, along with members of civil society, on Tuesday articulated strong reservations about the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, cautioning that it may erode the right to self-identification enshrined in the Supreme Court's landmark ruling in NALSA vs. union of India.

At a press conference held at the Kolkata Press Club, members of the Transgender Adhikar Sanghati Manch (TAS) expressed concern over the manner in which the bill was introduced and reportedly passed in the Lok Sabha on March 13, through a voice vote, without detailed discussion.
