Kozhikode, July 9 -- A portion of the century-old clock tower at Kozhikode Railway Station in Kerala, which had been marked for demolition, collapsed on Thursday morning. However, no injuries or casualties were reported, as the incident occurred at a time when there were no passengers in the immediate vicinity.
The incident occurred at around 11.10 am on Platform Number 2.
More than half of the 20-25 metre-tall vertical section of the historic tower split and crashed.
Tonnes of debris damaged overhead electrical lines, causing temporary disruption to train services.
The absence of passengers on the platform and the lack of boarding activity at the time prevented potential casualties.
