New York, Aug. 30 -- Taylor Townsend lit up Arthur Ashe Stadium today IST with a stirring display of fearless tennis, defeating world No. 5 Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-2 to reach the fourth round of the US Open for the first time since 2019.

The 30-year-old American, ranked No. 139 in singles but No. 1 in doubles, used her net-rushing tactics, left-handed variety and roaring home support to upset the Russian teenager. The victory capped a dramatic week for Townsend, who earlier had an on-court altercation with Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.
