Kolkata, Aug. 25 -- The West Bengal Tourism Department could not spend even 20 per cent of its allocated funds during the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime in the state, claimed Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh today.

He also alleged that widespread "institutional corruption was carried out in tourism-related development works" carried out by the previous TMC government.

Ghosh said the government had reviewed tourism-related work with district administrations and additional district magistrates and found that a significant portion of the funds available to the department had remained unspent. He said the government was now seeking greater district participation to improve implementation, increase revenue and generate employment.
