Chennai, Feb. 28 -- In an effort to strengthen climate resilience, Tamil Nadu Minister for Forests and Khadi R.S.Raja Kannappan, today inaugurated 23 newly completed Maragatha Pooncholais across 10 districts, marking significant progress under the State's "Creation of Maragatha Pooncholai in 100 Villages" scheme.
The scheme was announced in the State Assembly during 2022-23 with a total outlay of Rs 25 crore and was implemented under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, with an objective is to establish one-hectare community woodlots in 100 villages across the State.
Each Maragatha Pooncholai functions as a village woodlots, eco-recreation space and environmental learning centre.
