Chennai, April 3 -- After a much delay the AICC on Friday announced the list of Congress candidates for 27 of the 28 seats for the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, retaining 12 ositting MLAs and accommodating new faces, including new entrant GKM Tamilkumaran, who had quit the PMK just a week back and joined the National party.
Despite initial objections from within the party, Tamilkumaran, who is the son of veteran PMK leader G K Mani, who had a served as the long time President of the OBC-Vanniyar dominated party and now PMK's Chief Patron, got the AICC nod and fielded from Pennagaram seat in the Northern Dharmapuri district.
The candidate for Melur seat in Madurai would be announced by today evening, party sources said.
