Chennai, Aug. 5 -- The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced hike in lean period assistance for fishermen from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000.
Presenting the TVK regime's first budget in the State Assembly, Finance Minister N.Marie Wilson said the State Government has been providing lean-period fishing assistance of Rs.6,000 per family to fishermen engaged in traditional fishing activity.
It will now be increased from Rs.6,000 to Rs.7,000 per family, benefiting 1.93 lakh traditional fishermen families, with an allocation of Rs.135 crore for this scheme.
