Chennai, May 1 -- The Madras High Court has expressed its disapproval to the Tamil Nadu government's decision to restrict the maternity leave to just weeks for the third pregnancy and said there was aboslutely no justification on the part of the state government to have issued a GO to this effect.

The Government Order (G.O) issued on March 13, 2026 restricts maternity leave for women government servants to just 12 weeks (three months), who are otherwise entitled for 365 days of leave for the first two pregnancies.
