Chennai, Aug. 25 -- The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a Special Resolution seeking exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for teachers appointed before August 23, 2010.

The resolution, moved by School Education Minister A Rajmohan, was adopted by voice vote with the support of all parties.

The Minister said about 3.28 lakh teachers in the State had been affected by the mandatory TET requirement and argued that Teachers appointed before August 23, 2010, should be granted complete exemption from appearing for the TET.

He also said the State government had been taking up the issue considering the difficulties faced by teachers who were appointed before the TET came into force.
