Thane, Feb. 11 -- A major mishap was averted in Thane on Wednesday afternoon when a Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) bus caught fire on the busy Saket Road, prompting a swift evacuation of all passengers on board.

Around 20 to 25 commuters were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident, but all were brought out safely and no injuries were reported.

The incident took place at approximately 1:06 pm near the Rabodi Traffic Police post, located opposite the new Kalwa bridge. The bus, driven by Sushil Suhas Shelar and assisted by conductor Sagar Pashte, was on its way from the CIDCO Bus Depot towards Kalher when smoke was noticed emerging from the vehicle.
