Kolkata, Nov. 7 -- Senior Trinamool Congress leader and four-time Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee has reportedly fallen victim to a major cyber fraud, losing more than Rs 55 lakh after criminals gained access to his dormant account in a nationalised bank using forged KYC documents.

The fraud came to light when Banerjee discovered that a substantial sum from his personal account at Kalighat branch had been transferred to an old, inactive account originally opened during his tenure as an MLA between 2001 and 2006.

The funds were then siphoned off through multiple online transactions.
