Kolkata, March 25 -- A fresh political controversy has erupted over the appointment of a Returning Officer (RO) in the high-profile Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to face leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has raised objections to the appointment of Surajit Roy, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Nandigram, as the RO for Bhabanipur.
The party formally wrote to the Chief Election Officer in Delhi, with a copy marked to West Bengal CEO Manoj Agarwal on Tuesday, questioning the neutrality of the officer.
The issue gained traction after Banerjee herself criticised the Election Commission over the matter on Tuesday before leaving for North Bengal.
