Kolkata, Feb. 28 -- In an interesting development, the Trinamool Congress nominated former state Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, state minister Babul Supriyo, actress Koel Mallick, and Supreme Court lawyer Menaka Guruswamy as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha on Friday night.

The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for March 16, with voting to be held for 37 seats across 10 states.

West Bengal accounts for five of these seats and based on the strength of legislators in the state Assembly, the TMC is set to win four seats, while one seat is expected to go to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The nomination of Rajeev Kumar followed his recent defamation case against union Minister and former state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar.
