Hyderabad, May 4 -- Telangana Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao has written to union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, seeking inclusion of maize and sorghum (jowar) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and removal of the 25 per cent procurement cap on certain crops.

In his letter, the Minister said farmers are facing hardships due to central restrictions limiting procurement of crops such as Bengal gram, sunflower and groundnut to 25 per cent of total production. He noted that the Centre had approved procurement of 29,860 metric tonnes of Bengal gram and 3,690 metric tonnes of sunflower, but these limits were exhausted last week while large quantities still remain with farmers.
