Kannur, Nov. 2 -- Three Pharmacy students from Karnataka were drowned while swimming in Arabian Sea at Payyambalam here today.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Afnan Ahammed, Rahanudheen and Mohammed Afras, hailing from Bangalore in Karnataka.

A group of 11 Pharmacy students of St Philomenas College, Bangalore, arrived at Kannur yesterday and camped at a resort near Payyambalam beach.

The incident occurred around noon, when eight students entered the sea for swimming. Mohammed Afras was swept away by the waves first and the other two victims attempted to save Afras, but they were also swept away.

Locals and fishermen rescued Afnan Ahammed and Rahanudheen within 20 minutes and shifted to nearby district hospital, but ...
