Kolkata, Nov. 20 -- The Kolkata Police have arrested three men from Gujarat for their alleged involvement in a year-old cyber fraud in which a 61-year-old woman from Maniktala was deceived into transferring Rs 78.3 lakh.

The arrests were made following a detailed investigation into the complaint filed in March 2024.

According to police, the accused had impersonated Mumbai Police officers and intimidated the victim, Deepanwita Dhar, by falsely alleging that a parcel sent in her name to a person in Mumbai contained 200 grams of banned drugs.

The fraudsters claimed the parcel had been booked using her Aadhaar card and told her she must deposit "security money" with the Reserve Bank to avoid legal action.
