Hyderabad, April 7 -- The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), under the chairmanship of Justice Shameem Akther, has directed the immediate release of irrigation water to farmers cultivating lands under the Ghanapur Anicut in Sangareddy district.

In an interim order passed in a case, the Commission took serious note of the non-release of water, observing that standing paddy crop over nearly 20,000 acres was at a critical stage and faced imminent damage, a release said here on Tuesday.

The Commission said such inaction adversely affects farmers' right to livelihood, dignity and food under Article 21 of the Constitution.
