Hyderabad, Oct. 29 -- The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) on Thursday warned people against a fake WhatsApp message claiming that the Centre is offering an Rs 8,000 Diwali cash benefit to all citizens, cautioning that the link provided could be used to commit cyber fraud.
The fraudulent message, circulated in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urges recipients to click on a suspicious website link to claim the purported benefit, TGCSB Director Shikha Goel said in a press release here.
She said the message was designed to exploit the festive season and mislead people into believing that the government had announced an official cash-benefit scheme.
