Mumbai, July 8 -- Tension is brewing in Mira-Bhayander in Thane district after police denied permission for a march by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), planned in response to an earlier protest by a traders' association.

Ahead of the MNS march, the traders' group submitted a written apology to the deputy commissioner of police clarifying that their July 3 rally was not intended to hurt anyone's sentiments.

The traders had held a protest on July 3 following an incident in which a fellow trader was allegedly assaulted over a language-related issue. The MNS, known for championing Marathi pride, announced a counter-protest scheduled for today. However, the police refused to grant permission for the event.
