Hyderabad, April 16 -- People's organisations and intellectuals on Thursday demanded that the Telangana government fulfil its promises to tenant farmers by implementing the 2011 Licensed Cultivators Act and extending all welfare schemes to them.
At a roundtable meeting organised by Rythu Swarajya Vedika, participants expressed concern over the plight of tenant farmers, stating that they constitute a significant section of cultivators but lack access to bank loans and government benefits. They alleged that a majority of farmer suicides in the state involve tenant farmers due to mounting debts.
