New Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug. 26 -- Telangana will host the 8th Khelo India Youth Games this year, with competitions scheduled in Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar and Mahabubnagar, the Centre said on Wednesday.

Around 6,000 athletes are expected to participate in 25 sports disciplines, with Telangana also having the option to propose one local sport. A new sport will also be introduced in this edition. The Centre has released Rs 22 crore for conducting the games.

Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy welcomed Telangana being selected as the host state and said the Khelo India initiative was helping identify and nurture sporting talent at the grassroots level.
