New Delhi/Hyderabad, June 29 -- Telangana Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on Monday strongly opposed the proposed VB-G RAM G Act, urging the Centre to retain the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) as a rights-based programme and withdraw the proposed legislation.
Participating in a meeting of State Rural Development Ministers chaired by union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Seethakka submitted a memorandum outlining Telangana's objections to the proposed law.
Later, speaking to the media, she said the new legislation would impose a heavy financial burden on states by requiring them to bear 40 per cent of the scheme's cost under the proposed 60:40 funding pattern. She...
