Hyderabad, Aug. 31 -- Telangana Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Seethakka, today introduced the Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill, 2018 in the State Legislative Assembly, seeking to provide 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in rural local body elections.

Presenting the Bill, the Minister said that despite BCs constituting a significant share of the population, they had not received adequate representation in rural local bodies.

"In the wake of the previous government's decisions, and the verdicts of the High Court and Supreme Court, BCs were provided only 23 per cent reservation.

To ensure justice, we conducted a comprehensive, scientific caste census on the advice of BC intellectuals," Seethakka said.
