Hyderabad, Nov. 4 -- Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has directed Markfed to increase the maize procurement limit from 18.5 quintals to 25 quintals per acre, following higher yield estimates this season and requests from farmers and public representatives.
The Minister said 214 maize procurement centres have been proposed across the state, of which 125 are currently operational, and the rest will be opened immediately. So far, 23,131 metric tonnes of maize have been procured through these centres.
He said the state government has made arrangements to procure maize worth Rs 2,500 crore, ensuring farmers receive fair prices despite the lack of central support.
